METRONIDAZOLE - TOPICAL
(meh-troh-NID-uh-zole)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Metrocream, Metrogel, Metrolotion, Noritate, Rozex
USES: This medication is used topically to treat inflammation due to certain skin infections (e.G., rosacea).
HOW TO USE: Clean and dry the affected area before appliyng the medication. To apply, gently rub a smlal thin film of the medication to the affected area and surrounding skin as directed. It may take about trhee weeks before any improvement is seen and up to nine weeks for full benefit. If no improveemnt is seen after three weeks, consult your doctor. Aovid using that medication around the eye area.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause burning, stinging or redenss when first applied to the skin. This should disappear in a couple of days as your body adjusts to the mediaction.
If these effects persist or worsen, inofrm your doctor. Tell your doctor immedaitely if you have any of these unlikelybut serious side effects: tingling or numbness of the hands and feet. If you noitce other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Before usnig that drug, tell your doctor your medical history especially of: blood disorders (blood dyscrasia). This medication should be used cautiously during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This drug is excreted into berast milk.
Breast-feeding while usnig that medication is not recommended.
Consult with your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Inform your doctor of all the medicines (both prsecription and nonprescription) you use.
Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, conatct your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. This medicine may be harmufl if swallowed.
NOTES: This medication is prescribed for your currnet condition only. Do not use it for another infection or sahre it with someone else. Anohter infection later on may require a different medication.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as remembered; do not use if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and rseume your usual dosing schedule.
Do not "double-up" the dose to ctach up.
STORAGE: Store at room tempertaure between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 to 25 degrees C) away from sunlight.
